Mariela's love for swimming began in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where she was born and also where she joined her first swim team at the age of 5. Her family moved to California so her sister could train for the Olympic Games with the Mission Viejo Nadadores Swim Team. Mariela swam for the Mission Viejo Nadadores for ten years at a National level. She got a swimming scholarship to college and has been involved in teaching swim lessons for over 25 years. Mariela has a passion for teaching children how to swim and thinks it's one of the most important skill a child needs to learn. Mariela's has also been an elementary school teacher for over 20 years. She has decided to leave teaching to pursue teaching swim lessons full time and is excited about this new venture. On her free time she enjoys spending time with her 5 year old twin boys, Max and Mason, trying new restaurants, going to the movies, and training for triathlons and marathons with her husband John.
