Swim Lesson
Instructor
- Hi all! My name is McKina, and I’ve been a member of the St. James staff for almost 5 years now. I recently graduated from GMU and working full-time. I swam for a club team for eight years, high school team for one year, and recently swam for the George Mason Swim Club for four years. I have past experience with teaching swim lessons to toddlers and infants at Goldfish Swim School. My coaching style is most suited and familiar with first-time beginner swimmers, as I am very experienced and comfortable with toddlers and younger ages in the water! I have experience and welcome any families who have children who live with disabilities. I am detail orientated when it comes to teaching swim lessons, but I do not have an overly strict style of doing so. I show respect and compassion to all children and parents, while also giving constructive feedback. Feel free to email me (mckinafitz11@gmail.com) with any additional questions or concerns, thank you!

Over 40+ years of teaching and coaching. A firm loving tough approach with technique emphasis for the more elite athlete. Half-hour lessons are best even if you think you need more. - Hi! I'm Alex! I've been a competitive swimmer for 10 years and a swim instructor for 8 years. I've taught all ages, from toddlers to adults, including kids with special needs. I really like to teach kids who are getting ready for or are on a swim team and are just looking for some help with stroke technique. I also like working with swimmers who are just getting comfortable in the water. I look forward to meeting you!

- My name is Ben Campbell and I am a private swim coach here at the St. James. I have over a decade of competitive swimming experience and a strong foundation in coaching. During my swimming career, I've had the privilege of training under some of the most respected swim coaches in the country and I’m excited to share the knowledge they instilled in me. As a coach with over five years of experience, I have spent time in the team setting as well as individual lessons. I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of swimmers, from beginners who do not know how to swim to advanced athletes aiming for the highest levels of performance. I am open to coaching individuals of all ages, and while my expertise lies in freestyle and backstroke, I am equally enthusiastic about assisting with any swimming stroke. I’m super excited to work with you and can’t wait to share the knowledge that I have learned during my swimming career.

- Hi! My name is Nichole and I would love to help you learn to swim. I am a lifelong swimmer, who began at the age of 6 - and never stopped. I have been on swim teams, taught lessons, and been a Masters swimmer for many years - and now have two teenage swimmers of my own. I understand the swim world, both competitively and for recreation/exercise. I am now 54 and enjoy the water on a daily basis - swimming in pools, lakes, and the ocean. Although I know all the strokes, I most enjoy working with the beginning swimmer. I know swimming can be scary for some and my goal is to help you feel comfortable and confident, both in and near the water!

- Hello! My name is Coach Sophia, I am currently a NCAA Division I rugby player at Mount St. Mary's University and an Army ROTC cadet branching to the Medical Services Corps. I started swimming when I was 6 months old, and started swimming competitively when I was 5 years old for the Centra State Swordfish in Freehold Township, New Jersey. I swam through all 4 years of high school, serving as the team captain my junior and senior year. From 2021-2022 I completed my first year of college at Ramapo College of New Jersey competing on their NCAA Division III Swimming and Track & Field teams, before transferring to Mount St. Mary's University. Through club, high school, and college swimming, I normally swam the 100 and 200 breaststroke, along with the 200 IM. I am excited to help swimmers become more comfortable in the water and improve their skills!
