- Hey! My name is Shane. I'm a recent graduate in Biology from the University of British Columbia and am interested in Computer Science in my free time. I hope to spread my love for coding and STEM to my students in fun and interactive workshops! I approach teaching as a guide for my students to independently solve problems and think critically without being told the answers. I am comfortable teaching classes in English. I will do my best to show my students their imaginations are the limit to what they can accomplish and get them obsessed with coding!

I am profusely grateful to those who have been a mentor to me or have provided guidance in this wonderful, but confusing, journey we call life. Having now gained some life and technical experience, I would love to pay that help forward. I hold patience and empathy in high regard and strive to demonstrate both to the best of my ability.
In my spare time, I enjoy working out, researching nutrition, practicing cooking, and looking for new music! Always eager to learn about something interesting (whether it be about a topic, or about someone) and seeing if there's any way I can add value to someone else's life.
Looking forward to connect with you! - I'm an undergraduate CS student at UBC and an easygoing tutor here to guide you through the basics of Scratch, Python, and Web development! Don't hesitate to reach out via email or text message regarding class reschedules and other concerns.

Programming Tutor - Hello, I’m Jenny!
Jenny Nguyen
I’m currently double majoring in Computer Science and Cinema Studies at the University of Toronto. I have completed several courses that involve coding in Python, Java, and C and have experience in web development languages such as HTML and CSS to publish webcomics that I draw!
Outside of academics, I volunteer a lot with non-profit arts organizations such as the Vancouver Comic Arts Association, the Reel Asian International Film Festival, and the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair.
I have taught several courses at The C.O.D.E. Initiative, including Beginner and Intermediate Python, Java, and AR to students of all ages and skill levels! I aim to create a positive and non-judgemental environment and hope to inspire students with what they can create through coding! :) - Hi, I’m Ja! I’m a fourth year student at the University of British Columbia with experience in Python and web development. Through coding, I found joy in problem-solving, bringing ideas to life, and gained self-confidence. I hope I will be able to do the same through teaching students at C.O.D.E.

Going into post-secondary education, Zack has soon found an interest in coding and problem solving after self-learning Web Development. He has also completed some Computer Science courses in SFU relating to Python and C. Through these experiences, Zack has found that coding is a valuable skillset that can be learned at any age. With dedication, clear guidance, one can be truly amazed by the power to turn something from zero to one.
In the near future, Zack is looking forward to gaining more experiences in Web Development and turning it into a sustainable career.
During his free time, Zack enjoys singing and playing the guitar, as well as playing Fighting Games, most notably Street Fighter 6. He also loves going on long walks in nature and drinking Bubble Tea. - Chemical Biology student from UBC that loves to exercise, dance and video games!

- Hello!
Kaylee Nguyen
My name is Kaylee (any). I'm entering my third year in the University of Manitoba's computer science program, hoping to double-major in labour studies. I cannot lie, if you ask me what my interests are, my answer will change depending on the week. However, at the moment, I've got a penchant for drawing, researching IEMs and electric guitars, ogling pretty fountain pens and ink, reading critical theory, listening to music (it's a hodgepodge of vocaloid, K-pop, J-pop, J-rock, electronic music, jazz, and video game soundtracks), and, on occasion, singing!
It's a pleasure to meet you. Have a lovely day! <3 Chaehyeon Lee

- Hii! My name is Valerie and I’m one of the volunteers for CODE this year.
Valeria Lozada
A couple fun facts about me: my name comes from Latin and it means to be strong, healthy and brave. I love to bake and cook, I enjoy playing ping pong, I have always loved kids, connecting and getting to having fun with them brings me joy (especially with my nieces) and lately I’ve developed a bit of a love for teaching.
I’m very excited for all that is to come this year, I can’t wait to meet all of you and for us to work together learning as much as we can. STEAM might at times sound intimidating but in my experience with the right approach to it, including lots of patience, empathy, trust and kindness, it ends up being quite fun and I can’t wait to help you into learning to enjoy it. My 12 year old son just finished a second round of Python courses with Jenny. He absolutely loved his lessons with her, looking forward to them every week. Jenny is phenomenal! She was able to put my son at ease, and worked around his shyness, always ready to give encouragement and commendation. She is very engaging, and easily relatable. I also appreciated the detailed notes Jenny wrote after each lesson, detailing what was covered and how he did with the lesson. My son learned so much with Jenny - not just Python, but social and communication skills as well!

Our first experience with the CODE initiative was positive as we enrolled our 12-year-old daughter in the Scratch Advanced program. The tutor, Emerald, demonstrated patience and friendliness, making the learning process enjoyable for my daughter. She effectively facilitated understanding and skill development in coding. As a result, my daughter not only enjoyed the class but also expressed a desire for more sessions.
